The Truth About “Midjourney Gratis”: Navigating Free Access and Smart Alternatives
If you have spent any time searching the internet for “Midjourney gratis” (Spanish, Portuguese, and German for “Midjourney free”), you have likely run into a maze of conflicting advice, outdated YouTube tutorials, and broken promises.
The short, honest reality is this: Midjourney does not offer a standard free trial or a permanent free tier on its website or via Discord. Ever since the platform disabled its popular introductory free trial due to overwhelming demand and system abuse, exploring Midjourney’s world-class text-to-image engine has required a paid subscription starting at $10 a month.
However, “gratis” seekers still have options. Whether you want to test out the engine without pulling out your credit card or are looking for powerful image generators that are completely free, here is everything you need to know.
Can You Still Get Midjourney for Free?
While the core website and Discord server require a paid subscription plan (Basic, Standard, Pro, or Mega), a few specific pathways still exist to experience Midjourney’s technology without paying full price:
- The Niji·Journey Mobile App Trial: Midjourney officially permits a limited free trial through its companion app, Niji·Journey (tailored specifically for anime and illustration styles) on iOS and Android devices. It gives new mobile users a small bundle of free generations to test the waters.
- The Meta AI Partnership: Through an ongoing collaboration, Meta AI integrates Midjourney’s underlying image-generation capabilities across platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, and the Meta AI web interface (
meta.ai). While you are interacting with Meta’s interface rather than Midjourney’s native web app, it lets you leverage high-tier AI generation completely free of charge. - Community Rewards (for Subscribers): If you already hold an active subscription, Midjourney runs community rating tasks and occasional surveys where active users can earn free “Fast GPU hours” by helping rank images or providing feedback.
Understanding Midjourney’s Paid Tiers
For those weighing whether to transition from searching for a free workaround to actually investing in a subscription, Midjourney’s structure breaks down across four primary tiers:
| Plan | Monthly Price | Annual Equivalent | Key Features |
| :— | :— | :— | :— |
| Basic | $10 / mo | $8 / mo | ~3.3 hours of Fast GPU time (~200 images); no Relax mode |
| Standard | $30 / mo | $24 / mo | 15 hours Fast GPU time + Unlimited Relax mode (slower generation, zero extra cost) |
| Pro | $60 / mo | $48 / mo | 30 hours Fast GPU time + Stealth Mode (keeps your images private) |
| Mega | $120 / mo | $96 / mo | 60 hours Fast GPU time for heavy power-users and studios |
Top Completely Free Alternatives to Midjourney
If a paid subscription isn’t in your budget right now, several incredible AI art generators offer robust free tiers that rival Midjourney’s aesthetic flexibility:
- Leonardo.ai: One of the closest competitors to Midjourney in terms of rendering photorealism and fantasy art. It offers a generous daily free token allowance that resets every 24 hours.
- Adobe Firefly: Built with commercial safety in mind, Adobe provides free monthly/daily generative credits embedded right into its web tools, making it fantastic for graphic design and typography.
- Ideogram: Widely considered the gold standard for rendering legible, accurate text inside AI images, Ideogram features a functional free tier for casual creators.
Summary Verdict
If your heart is set specifically on the unique, painterly, and hyper-realistic aesthetic of Midjourney, you will either need to test the waters via the Niji·Journey mobile app, experiment through Meta AI, or budget for the entry-level $10 plan. Otherwise, platforms like Leonardo.ai and Ideogram will happily satisfy your creative itch entirely gratis.
