How to Add a Music Bot to Your Discord Server
Adding a music bot to your Discord server is one of the best ways to hang out, listen to tunes, and discover new tracks with your friends. Whether you are setting up a chill hangout space or an active community server, bringing a bot onboard takes only a few minutes.
Step 1: Choose Your Music Bot
Before diving into installation, you will want to pick a bot that fits your server’s style. Popular options include Jockie Music (great for multi-channel support), Wave Music, and FredBoat.
You can find verified bots through trusted directories like top.gg or directly via Discord’s built-in App Directory.
Step 2: Invite the Bot to Your Server
Once you have selected a bot, follow these steps to add it:
- Go to the Official Website or Directory: Navigate to the bot’s official landing page or locate it in Discord’s App Directory (
Discovericon at the bottom-left of your app). - Click “Invite” or “Add to Discord”: Look for the primary action button next to the bot’s name.
- Log In: If prompted, sign in using your Discord account credentials.
- Select Your Server: Choose your target server from the drop-down menu. Note: You must have “Administrator” or “Manage Server” permissions to add bots.
- Authorize Permissions: Review the requested permissions (such as connecting to voice channels and sending messages) and click Authorize. Complete any security verification checks (like a CAPTCHA) if they appear.
Step 3: Test and Play Music
With the bot successfully added to your server roster, it’s time to test the audio:
- Join a Voice Channel in your Discord server.
- Type the bot’s designated prefix or slash command (for example,
/playor!play) followed by the song name or URL into a text channel. - The bot should join your voice channel and start streaming your audio. Check the bot’s official documentation for specific queue, volume, and skip commands.
